“Most impressive though, is Martha Barrow's subtle sound design, which is hardly perceptible but adds just enough to hint at what is happening off stage or what is not seen.”

"Expert manipulation of both lighting and sound effectively encapsulates everything from the chaos of nightclubs, to the discomfort of sexual health clinics, to the seediness of a stranger's bedroom."

Martha Barrow is a London-based sound designer and engineer who graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Acoustics and Music Technology, where she explored music composition for theatre, sampling and production techniques, and the acoustic modelling and simulation of theatres. Alongside her work in theatre and events she currently works as a Graduate Consultant in Arup's Acoustics, Audio-Visual, and Theatres team, where she assists in the design of stage engineering, production lighting, and production sound, video, and communications systems for leading theatres and concert halls.
Over the past 4 years she's worked on over 50 plays and musicals in London and Edinburgh, with her sound design being described as "thoroughly impressive" and "clear". Her interests lie mainly in musical theatre and solo performance where sound can become a character of its own, however she's also enjoyed designing for larger casts, stand up comedy, and devised pieces.
She has a growing interest in audio engineering where she's gained experience recording, mixing and mastering music for theatre trailers as well as mixing and mastering a full cast recording of a new musical, and she's beginning to branch out into more genres.
